Roots

The founding of the company dates back to the beginning of the century in Constantinople. 

By 1908, Vahram Gumuchdjian already had 45 people working in one of Turkey's first diamond polishing factories. 

During World War I, the business first moved to Amsterdam, then to Antwerp, today's World Diamond Center. 

International expansion 

By catering to customers both in Europe and in the USA, Vahram's son, André Ara Gumuchdjian built an international company with offices in New York and Geneva. 

Reputation for quality and honesty was acknowledged by the most famous jewellers and manufacturers throughout the world who relied on A.V.Gumuchdjian for their supplies. 

Highlight of the seventies 

One of André Ara Gumuchdjian's proudest achievements was the request by the American Museum of Natural History to borrow the "Gumuchdjian Spectrum Collection", a spectacular collection of fancy coloured diamonds. 

This collection, acknowledged to be the finest in the world, was displayed from '76 to '86 and is still reproduced in every major publication on diamonds.

New expansion 

Upon joining the family business, André Alain Gumuchdjian (André Ara's son) anticipated a big growth in demand for finer make, smaller melés from discerning jewellers and manufacturers. 

A successful activity in the smaller goods has been subsequently created and developed. While maintaining its reputation for reliability, A.V.Gumuchdjian has added a very important facet in today's diamond business: consistency.

Specialized in very fine make in the top four colors, from fullcuts to 1/3 carat, A.V.Gumuchdjian has an extensive inventory in exquisite round stones, plus a range of fancy shapes: marquises, pear shapes, emerald cuts and some ovals, from 3/4 carats and up, all with distinctive shapes.
